St Francis Xavier (d. 1552) A Jesuit priest considered the greatest missionary since St Paul whose work in the Far East earned him the title Apostle of the East Indies and Apostle of Japan. He was born a nobleman to a Spanish-Basque family on October 7, 1506 but lived a life full of love for the poor, preaching in the streets, traveling thousands of miles, mostly on foot, and baptizing thousands.
